Tepi for iOS and Apple Watch · Last updated: 9 October 2026

The short version: Tepi has no servers, no analytics, no tracking and no advertising, and no account with us. Nothing is ever sent to the developer automatically — everything the app knows stays on your iPhone. If you link a tado° account, Tepi makes a small number of requests to tado° on your behalf, described below. The one exception is deliberate: if you write to support, you can choose to attach a short description of your setup, which you see in full before it is sent.

What Tepi stores on your device

Tepi on Apple Watch

The watch app keeps the list of rooms your iPhone sends it — names, order, groups and which rooms Tepi may change; for your home no temperatures, no tado° account, no location — and reads and changes your thermostats through the watch's own Apple Home. While the iPhone shows the demo home, the list is the demo's, with its invented temperatures, and nothing on the watch touches a real device. The list travels from your iPhone to your watch over Apple's own connection between the two (WatchConnectivity) and goes nowhere else. The watch app collects nothing, sends nothing to the developer or to tado°, and has no support email of its own. Reset all Tepi data on the iPhone tells the watch to forget its list too.

Who Tepi talks to

If you write to support

Tapping Send feedback opens your own mail app with a message addressed to hello@tepiapp.com. Before it does, Tepi offers to attach a short technical summary: the app and iOS version, your iPhone's model identifier (for example “iPhone15,3”), how many rooms you have and how many are hidden, which tado° generations and how many are behind a bridge, how many tado° accounts are linked, when the last cloud sync happened, the last error message the app showed you, and the last few changes you made through Tepi with the time you made them (each one as “room 1”, “room 2” and so on, never by name), and the make and model of any heating device Tepi found in your Home app but cannot read. Since version 1.1 it also says whether Tepi Assist is on and counts what it did in the last week (for example “suggested 3 · accepted 1”) — never a place or a time of day. Since version 1.2 it also says whether Schedules is on and how many rooms' schedules it has read or found paused, what tado° said when it refused a request (with any long number removed), and how many of your devices Tepi could match to your tado° account — showing only the pattern of their hardware IDs with every digit replaced (for example “VA##########”), never the IDs themselves.

That attachment is switched off unless you switch it on, it is shown to you word for word on the screen where you turn it on, and the choice is not remembered for next time. It contains no names, addresses, locations, serial numbers or room names — room names are removed from the error line and from the list of changes before it is attached. You can still edit or delete any of it in your mail app before sending.

If you send it, that email arrives in an ordinary mailbox and is kept only as long as it takes to answer you and fix what you reported. It is never used for anything else, never shared, and never used to build any profile of you. Ask at any time and it will be deleted.

In App Store terms this is declared as diagnostic data collected for app functionality. It is declared as linked to you, because it arrives in an email with your address on it — not because Tepi has any account or identity for you. It is never used for tracking.

Location

Tepi uses your location only to know where home is, and only if you set a home in Tepi Assist (version 1.1 and later) — for Presence reminders or for the outdoor temperature. Until then it doesn't ask, and versions before 1.1 don't ask at all.

When you tap Set home to where I am now, Tepi reads your position once and keeps it on your iPhone. It needs Precise Location for this: iOS only watches a circle as small as home's with it. From then on iOS itself watches the circle and shows the reminder when you cross it; Tepi isn't told where you are, isn't woken in the background, and only ever asks for location While Using the App.

Your exact home location stays on your iPhone: it is never sent to the developer or to tado°, and never appears in a support email. Two things see an approximation of it, both Apple's. If you turn on Outdoor temperature (below), Apple Weather gets it rounded to about 1 km. And the small map in Tepi Assist's settings comes from Apple Maps, which is asked for the area around that same rounded point; the circle marking home is drawn on your iPhone, and the map can't be moved or zoomed.

Home has its own section in Tepi Assist's settings, so you can always see it. Turning Presence off keeps it, because the outdoor temperature can use it too; Forget home or Reset all Tepi data removes it, and the forecast with it.

Tepi Assist

Suggestions are learned on your iPhone from what you do in Tepi: which room, what temperature, what time of day. The counts stay on the device and are removed when you switch Suggestions off or reset Tepi. Switching Tepi Assist itself off stops using them but keeps them, until you switch Suggestions off or reset.

So that iOS can offer your usual actions on the Lock Screen and in Siri, Tepi tells iOS about the actions you take (Apple calls this donating), and Apple's Siri Suggestions learns from them. Apple says Siri Suggestions learns on your device, and if you use iCloud it syncs that personalisation between your Apple devices, end-to-end encrypted. The developer never receives any of it. You can turn it off in the iPhone's Settings → Apps → Tepi → Siri, and switching Suggestions off deletes what Tepi donated.

Outdoor temperature is a separate switch under Suggestions, off until you turn it on. When it's on, Tepi asks Apple's weather service (WeatherKit) for the forecast at your home, with the location rounded to about a kilometre, at most once an hour — a request that failed counts too. That request goes to Apple, not to the developer or tado°. The forecast is kept on your iPhone and never used after Apple says it expires (about an hour). If Tepi is running then, it's deleted at that moment; if not — iOS pauses apps in the background — it's deleted as soon as Tepi runs again, before it's used for anything. Turning the switch off, switching Suggestions off or forgetting home deletes it at once. So that switching off and on can't make Tepi ask more often, it remembers for an hour when it last asked and for which rounded area; Reset all Tepi data deletes that too. A suggestion's notification shows no forecast. To reopen its card, the notification carries the suggestion details needed to do so, with WeatherKit forecast values removed.

Children

Tepi is a household utility and is not directed at children. It asks for nothing about the person using it, and the only information that can reach the developer is a support email somebody chose to write.

Your rights

The developer holds nothing about you unless you have written to support, in which case it is that email and whatever you chose to put in it. Write to hello@tepiapp.com and it will be deleted. To remove what Tepi has stored on your device — including your tado° sign-in — use Settings → Reset all Tepi data, then delete the app. Deleting the app on its own removes its files and settings, but iOS has never promised that it clears an app's Keychain entries, and your tado° credentials live there. The reset removes them explicitly.

Changes

If a future version of Tepi ever changes how data is handled, this page will be updated before that version ships, and material changes will be noted in the App Store release notes.
